When we become parents, suddenly we are aware of all the dangers that lurk in the outside world. We may not have even noticed some of these concerns before becoming a parent, but now they are the bane of our existence as we do everything in our power to keep our kids calm and protect them. We feel like we want to wrap our family up in a bubble and carry them with us everywhere we go. We also know that our own anxiety can transfer to our children, so it is best to have an effective plan in place to ensure their safety.
First, we have to realize that we can not be everywhere all the time. We need to have faith that our children are safe even when our eyes and ears are not constantly focused on them. One of the top ways to do that is to have a home security system installed. This single solution provides us with a safety net that can protect our family in a multitude of ways.
Easing Our Children’s Fears
A home security system may even fix the not so obvious problems. For example, if bedtime has become a challenging issue in your home, it may be because your children are having trouble sleeping at night from being afraid of monsters or burglars, and this is causing increased anxiety. Children are more likely to feel confident and secure in their surroundings when they know all of the parts are in place to keep them safe.
They look to us for re-assurance, so put their fears at ease by explaining to them that your home is well protected. Show them how the security system works. They will likely be able to rest easier knowing that doors and windows are secure and that cameras are in place. They will also be happy to know that the “good guys” (firemen and police) will be there right away if anything happens.
Addressing Our Own Worries
Anxiety and concern are not just exclusive to the children when it comes to safety and security. As our children grow up, leaving them at home alone is another rite of passage–for us AND them! Having a home security system installed will give us the confidence to leave our kids home while we go out for a night or other extended periods of time. The addition of cameras and automatic call buttons are new layers of safety and security that will allow us to be even more comfortable with leaving them there without us. In fact, you can check in on your home without them even knowing it. Gone are the days of nanny cams hidden in the teddy bear–now you can see every aspect of your home from your own mobile device while you are at work, the grocery store, or on vacation.
Way Beyond Just Security
In addition to the security of audible alarms and alerts that tie to burglary, theft, or general safety, many home security systems also have built-in fire protection. This is invaluable not only during the day if you are not home, which will also protect your material items in the house, but it is also a huge benefit overnight. When you are all asleep, the home security system will still be “awake” and alert, ready to warn you of any fires that you would not otherwise be cognizant of. By the time you come to your senses and wake up to figure out what is going on and where the fire is, your security system has already alerted the police and the fire department. This way, you will be able to focus on getting everyone safely out of the house.
A home security system is like having a blanket covering up your entire family. With one solution, you protect children, adults, older relatives that may be living with you, and pets. You also protect your valuable assets and items that can not be replaced by providing that extra level of coverage. By installing an effective home security system, you will ease everyone’s anxiety and ensure that your home stays the comfortable hub it is meant to be.
How do you talk to your kids about home security?
