Many of us have been sheltering in place or self-quarantining for several weeks now. It’s getting more and more challenging to come up with innovative ways to entertain our children–and ourselves for that matter.
While we are stuck at home with our families, it’s so important to tap into our happiness toolbox to find activities rooted in positive psychology to help us feel happier and calmer. These activities include creative arts like music, drawing, and painting; fitness like aerobics, biking, and obstacle courses; mindfulness like yoga and breathing exercises; and connecting with nature, whether that is done in your backyard, from your balcony, or from inside your home.
This period is also unique and challenging for parents because we are relying on technology more than ever for our families to connect to the outside world. Being social is one of the most important ways to stay happy and balanced, so for now, it’s necessary to incorporate technology into our family’s routine in order to stay connected. Just be sure to do it in a safe way to prevent issues like cyberbullying. And, of course, incorporate plenty of outdoor playtime and other unplugged time throughout your day.
So, how can we find ways for our children to connect online to important happiness tools like art, music, nature, and fitness?
I am excited to tell you about a new resource that will help you keep track of all the wonderful opportunities for your kids to connect online in a healthy way. This tool organizes the online entertainment you seek in one simple platform. And best of all, these events are completely free!
A group of entertainers has developed a virtual timetable that lists free virtual events organized in three categories:
- Enjoy the Show
- Create and Learn
- Get Moving
It’s so simple to use and will save you a ton of time. I have been getting bombarded with tons of emails from so many different organizations that my head is spinning. This tool makes it easy for you to plan your days and week because all of the activities are in one place. What’s also really cool about it is that new events are constantly being added every day for your family to enjoy.
My biggest advice for maneuvering through this unprecedented time of uncertainty and stress is to stay busy, keep a routine, and enjoy the activities from our happiness toolbox. This timetable will help you do just that. Have fun!
