Developed by mom and dad team Ulli and Benedict Coulter, Baby’s Brilliant is a library of resources filled with interactive apps, read-along books, and print books for young children to enjoy. Seeking quality entertainment for their own children, they decided to create tools that are safe, practical, fun, and filled with valuable life lessons.
In the book It’s Alright To Look Different, the message is about accepting others no matter how different they seem. This topic is so critical, as more and more children are being bullied due to the increase in technology use. Nearly 43 percent of kids have been bullied online, and cyberbullying is now the single largest type of bullying around. In addition, the majority of kids are bullied because of how they look. According to TeenSafe, 72 percent of children are cyberbullied because of their looks. This can be anything from race, height, weight, hair style, clothing, or whether or not someone wears glasses. Reading books like It’s Alright To Look Different helps to instill a sense of compassion and open-mindedness in our children starting at a young age.
Geared towards children ages 24 months to 5 years old, It’s Alright To Look Different is about a small chick who was born a different color than his brothers and sisters. They are yellow, while he is brown. Because of the way he looks, the other chicks separate him from the group and ignore him. Sadly, he reaches out to them for a hug, and they all step back. They even tell each other, “He is different, he doesn’t look like us. And if he tries to join us, we’ll just make a big fuss!”
The poor little chick is left all alone and ridiculed by his own family. He is shocked that they could be so unkind. He ends up finding a quiet place to hide out and be all by himself.
But then one night, a hungry fox threatens to harm the chicks. Because the brown chick was not with the rest of the group, he was able to step in and tell the group to run and hide where he typically spends his time. Even though they had been mean to him, he knew in his heart that helping them was the right thing to do.
He was able to make a real difference by being kind. He becomes their hero and they finally realize how special he is and that they can love him, too. They express how grateful they are to him and promise to never be hurtful again.
In the end, he becomes part of their group and they all play well together. The key message at the end of the story is: “No matter how different someone looks to your eyes, just be kind and friendly. Your life will be better, and that’s the biggest prize!”

The app contains several different types of tools to explore:
The read-along books provide a traditional reading option for families to help increase children’s comprehension. There are no electronic distractions like animation or sound effects. The books are simply read the old fashioned way by a narrator with a soothing voice who is also a mother of two. The recordings are lightly orchestrated and presented at a comfortable pace for children to enjoy. Read-along books are a great way for babies and toddlers to get engaged in reading and for older children to start to learn how to read by following along with the narrator. In addition to their own books, Baby’s Brilliant is now collaborating with several other authors to create read-along versions of their books.
Videos include beautiful images and scenery from around the world and are accompanied by classical music in the background. Babies and toddlers are introduced to language in a fun and meaningful way. You can select the movies you want your child to watch and arrange the order of play. Movies are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, German, and French. In addition, there are several hearing impaired versions of the videos of children’s popular songs, which are offered for free.
The music section includes lullabies, inspirational music, popular children’s songs, and classical music from composers like Mozart and Bach.
Interactive Sound Boards
This new tool allows your little one to interact and get a prompt response which helps to keep them engaged. With the tap of the finger, they can discover the sounds and names of animals, instruments, items around the house, as well as transportation, fruits and vegetables, numbers, and everything from the exciting new world they are discovering. Soundboards are available in six languages.
This tool is a gentle combination of music and visuals that help your child fall asleep quickly. You can customize the order of play, create your own playlist, and loop it for up to 90 minutes.
